BACK TO WORK: If you didn’t see this column during the month of September it’s because I took some time off. Patty and I took a big “Side Trip” to the north, primarily Oregon and the Columbia River, for some needed rest and recreation.

SCOOPED!: Carol Thornberry (Daily Review, 9/28) scooped me in reporting my own vacation! That’s fine. It was a nice trip that included a cruise on the Columbia River, a jet boat ride up the Snake River, visits to the Oregon Zoo, Evergreen Aviation Museum, and friends and relatives in Oregon.

THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT: The “Holidays” are coming up rapidly which makes some of us start to think about holiday parties and gatherings. If you are looking for some outstanding entertainment for such an event, consider the Madrigals.

The Madrigals are a singing group from within our award winning CVHS Choir. They have won many awards in competition, including first in their division and first place overall at the prestigious Disneyland competition last spring. Most of the members are in the CVHS A Cappella Choir which is ranked fifth in California. (If this fantastic choir is only fifth, the imagination boggles at trying to grasp how good the others are!) Many of you may have seen and heard them perform at the Choir’s Spring Concert this year. If so, you are aware of their excellence.

The group is trying to raise money to buy new dresses and to pay their accompanist. To that end, they are available for hire to entertain at your event. While there are 24 singers in the group, they are capable of performing in smaller groups if so desired. Their performance can only enhance any gathering. They are a visual and aural delight.

For more information on hiring the Madrigals, call Sue Suesoff at Castro Valley High School at (510) 537-5910. I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

TAJ MAH-SPORTS FIELD: I walked over to CVHS last Friday to view our new sports facility. Very nice. It certainly must rank with the best in the area. As I said before, it complements our equally beautiful Performing Arts Center. The entire community can be proud of the CVHS campus.
